TED CRUZ VS. D.C. ESTABLISHMENT!

1/11/2016 3:48 PM CDT

Presidential candidate Ted Cruz spoke at the Baton Rouge Marriot Monday to a packed house, preaching an anti-Washington establishment message that struck a chord with his audience.

THE DEAD PELICAN arrived around 10 minutes before Cruz appeared on stage, but by then it was standing room only: every chair was taken.

Before the candidate went on stage, the audience was treated to images of Cruz on dual video screens. The pictures contained quotes from numerous publications declaring that Cruz cannot win the GOP nomination, followed by more quotes from the same papers months later claiming that yes, he can win after all.

An enthusiastic crowd cheered and waved signs as Cruz slammed the "Washington cartel," a vast network of political insiders who are working against the interests of the American people.

"Conservatives are coming together, and D.C. is terrified!" Cruz proclaimed.

He said that there was corruption in both parties, which he vowed to fight.

On taxes, Cruz said that he supports a flat tax, and that he would work to abolish the IRS. In another humorous swipe at the government bureaucracy, he said that after closing the IRS, we would send its former employees down to the Mexican border.

"If they (illegal aliens) get to the border and see a bunch of IRS agents, they'll turn right around and go back!"

He also vowed to put an end to Common Core and said that the department of education should be "boarded up."
