TREASURER KENNEDY: "NIGHT AND DAY DIFFERENCE BETWEEN VITTER, EDWARDS

11/4/2015-- 10:00 AM CDT CDT

State Treasurer John Kennedy appeared on the Moon Griffon show Wednesday to reiterate his support for Senator David Vitter in the Louisiana governor's race, pointing out that there is a 'night and day' difference between the candidates.

Griffon noted that Vitter was facing an "uphill climb." Kennedy, however stated that 2 1/2 weeks in a gubernatorial runoff is a very long time and things can change. He also took issue with some of the polling, saying that the race would be closer than many polls indicate.

"Anyone who really thinks that this race will be decided by 20 points is smoking medicinal marijuana," Kennedy said. Kennedy said that he knows both Vitter and John Bel Edwards personally, and that both men are smart and neither would steal or tolerate those who do. He said that both candidates want to do the right thing, but their views were vastly different.

Kennedy said that Vitter is a conservative by Louisiana's definition and John Bel Edwards is a liberal. He said that Vitter opposes the minimum wage, but if John Bel wins, raising the minimum wage will be the first thing on his list. Kennedy believes that raising the minimum wage will be harmful to Louisiana business and will cost jobs.

He said that Vitter supports school choice, whereas John Bel Edwards opposes it.

Kennedy also said the race should not be about personality or where each candidate went to college. He said the race is not about "who you would rather have a beer with."

Kennedy says that he has supported Vitter since day one because Louisiana needs a leader who is a "cross between Socrates and Dirty Harry," and Vitter fits the bill.

Griffon noted that the unions and the trial lawyers were excited about Edwards as governor, and that voters should strongly consider this when casting their vote.
