(BATON ROUGE) - Last night, the Greater New Orleans Republicans voted to endorse Dr. Bill Cassidy for the United States Senate. Dr. Cassidy also has received the endorsements of the Jefferson, St. Tammany, Rapides, Washington and Terrebonne Republican Executive Committees and the Louisiana Republican Party.

"The Greater New Orleans Republicans represent a critical part of our state and I am so pleased to have their support and endorsement," said Bill Cassidy. In their endorsement, GNOR specifically points to my work to protect families from skyrocketing flood insurance rates. Our victory on flood insurance is only one example of the good work we will accomplish when Republicans take back the Senate."

“After hearing from all three candidates, the GNOR board met and voted to endorse Congressman Cassidy’s campaign for US Senate,” said GNOR President Andy Dupre.

“Congressman Cassidy has been a leader on Capitol Hill in the fight to control runaway home flood insurance rates,” said Sarah Harbison, the former chairman of the GNOR.

“Congressman Cassidy is a proven winner having successfully challenged an incumbent Democratic US Representative to get to Washington in 2008,” said Harbison. “We are confident that he is the strongest possible candidate to run against Mary Landrieu this fall.” More about Rep. Bill Cassidy, M.D:

Bill’s life has been one of service as a doctor and as an elected official. He grew up in Baton Rouge and attended LSU and LSU Medical School. In 1990, he joined LSU Medical School, teaching medical students and residents and treating the uninsured. He continues to teach and see patients at LSU Clinics when he is not in Washington, D.C.

Dr. Cassidy’s concern for the uninsured and for families led him to co-found a clinic for the working uninsured; create a private-public partnership to vaccinate 36,000 school children in a 10 parish area against Hepatitis B; and led a team of volunteers to turn an abandoned K-Mart into a surge hospital to care for Hurricane Katrina evacuees.
